NOISE

It is a fact: Spain is a noisy country and Spanish people make a lot of noise.
According to some studies we are the second noisiest country in the world just after Japan.

STOP THE PRESS!!

These days some ESO Year 2 students are making their first newspaper (just the front page to be more precise...).
They did a good job with text, pictures, layout, etc. And they also used their imagination a lot!! We can find news articles on politicians, sportspeople,  artists,scientists, etc.

LET'S TAKE ACTION

This week Alex has been discussing with Bachillerato Year 2 students some issues concerning global warming. Here is one of the videos he used as a warming-up exercises before the interaction.

Difficult to find, gold has become the most important metal in the world and not just now. The attraction for this precious metal dates back centuries ago and has been the reason for many wars.

Jornada de Trabajo del Plan Estratégico de las Lenguas

 El viernes 19 de febrero se celebra en Torremolinos (Málaga) una interesantísima Jornada de Trabajo para estudiar y definir el Plan Estratégico de las Lenguas para Andalucía para los próximos años.
  400 participantes (coordinadores bilingües, equipos directivos y profesorado en general) de toda nuestra región acuden para participar en varias mesas redondas donde se tratarán temas como:

• Desarrollo y mejora del Programa Bilingüe
• Formación y metodología
• Optimizar el recurso de I+D+I
• Interculturalidad
• Exposición a idiomas

El coordinador de este IES acudió a la mesa de Desarrollo y mejora del Programa Bilingüe. Se constató una intención de reconducir el programa y ver cuáles son sus deficiencias para mejorarlas.
Los problemas más importantes son: falta de profesorado formado en lenguas extranjeras y metodología AICLE, falta de auxiliares de conversación, ratio de alumnado demasiado elevada para poder poner en práctica un enfoque comunicativo, falta de profesorado para hacer desdobles y agrupamientos flexibles para tratar la diversidad de niveles, etc.

WE VISIT HUELVA UNIVERSITY

We had a special day today with our Bachillerato Year 2 students. We went to El Carmen Campus in Huelva to get some useful information about different degrees this university has on offer.
According to their likes, students were guided through the campus to find out more about those studies, subjects, characteristics, etc.

GETTING TO KNOW NEW ZEALAND

Last week we welcomed Liv Patricia, our foreign student from New Zealand. I asked her to prepare a presentation about her country including history, geography, traditions, food, etc. Here is the result posted on our Torre de PaPel bulletin board.

BUSCAMOS AUXILIARES PARA EL CURSO 2015-16

Desde que comenzó la crisis las horas de Auxiliares de Conversación en los centros educativos bilingües han ido disminuyendo cada curso.
Ya sabéis que este año solo contamos con 6 horas pues tenemos al auxiliar compartido con el CEIP Tierno Galván de Corrales. Por ello, hemos ofertado nuestro centro para que estudiantes europeos (con al menos un B2 en inglés) vengan para hacer una estancia en el extranjero con nosotros.
Al mismo tiempo, es un proyecto muy interesante para ellos también pues les da la oportunidad de tener una experiencia formativa y enriquecer su Curriculum Vitae.
Confiamos en que alguien quiera venir hasta el "sur" y pasar unos meses con nosotros para formar parte de nuestro Proyecto Bilingüe.

BECAS CURSO INMERSIÓN LINGÜÍSTICA POR LA UIMP (2º BACHILLERATO)

Ya se ha publicado la convocatoria de 1.400 ayudas para la realización de un curso de inmersión en lengua inglesa organizado por la Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo. Además de a otros estudios superiores, esta ayuda está destinada al alumnado becario de 2º Bachillerato.
ATENCIÓN: El plazo de presentación de solicitudes (en formato digital en la sede electrónica del Ministerio de Educación) acaba el domingo 6 de marzo.

THE PRESENT

There is a saying in English: a picture is worth a thousand words. Sometimes we come across short videos that are little gems.
 Here is a good example. It is called "The Present" and it was made by a German studio. The short has been awarded in many different international film festivals.

WELCOME LIV PATRICIA

In the last few years we have had at our school some foreign students from the USA and New Zealand.
This year we welcome another one from New Zealand: Liv Patricia. She will be with us from February 1st until the end of the school year to study ESO Year 4.
It will be a great opportunity for her to improve her Spanish and for our students to improve their English and multicultural awareness.
