GERMAN EXCHANGE GROUP

Finally, here is a picture of most of the German students from Gerabronn that will participate in the 2nd Edition of our School Exchange for Bachillerato Year 1.
We have really high expectations about this exchange and we hope is goes as well as the first edition which was really a big success for students, teachers and families.

PENPAL WITH ESSEN

Some time ago we said that some ESO Year 2 students would start a Penpal project with a high school in Essen, Germany. Finally, the students have been paired up and in a few days they will start a new friendship that we hope will last very long!
Today with new technologies it is so easy to keep in touch, text, send pictures or videos... Certainly, the world is getting smaller and smaller!

Today our Bachillerato Year 2 students have visited Aljaraque Town Hall to have a special session devoted to our constitution, meet our Mayoress (Mrs. Yolanda Rubio) and ask her a question about politics, problems in the municipality, etc.
For two hours we have a great opportunity to ask and know more about our town.
Thanks to all the participant and especially our Mayoress.

Do you remember Thomas Lindecke, the German visiting teacher who came to our school at the end of September??? Well, I asked him to write a post for our blog summing up his experience with us and here it is. Thanks Thomas!!

Flamencos de camino a la escuela

¿Ir al instituto por la mañana y observar flamencos? Sí, esto es posible … cuando acudes como profesor visitante a Corrales, Huelva, España. Desde el 21 de septiembre hasta el 2 de octubre de 2015 participé allí en un programa de intercambio del “Pädagogischer Austauschdienst“ para profesores europeos. Como instituto de intercambio se me asignó el Instituto (IES) Juan Antonio Pérez Mercader. Don José Antonio Alcalde fue el coordinador de este programa en Corrales.

Durante mi estancia asistí a clases de inglés y español así como a clases bilingües de matemáticas y deporte entre otras. También hubo varias reuniones y conferencias con colegas para discutir facetas de la vida escolar. Así pude informarme sobre aspectos como la inclusión, el programa bilingüe, la mediación, la administración, los programas deportivos y extracurriculares, el fomento lingüístico y de la lectura así como la formación del profesorado en la escuela y la universidad. Además de muchos colegas con los cuales pude discutir diferentes temas escolares también quedaron conmigo algunos representantes del AMPA para informarme sobre sus actividades y para enterarse de cómo trabaja el AMPA de mi instituto.

El señor Alcalde organizó mi estancia de manera dinámica así que en estas dos semanas alcancé una amplia visión de la rutina diaria de un instituto español. Además el señor Alcalde propició una bienvenida cordial por parte del claustro, por ejemplo mediante unas tapas con los colegas después de las clases.

Con el señor Alcalde también habrá una cooperación futura. Para este año escolar hemos planificado un intercambio intercultural entre uno de mis cursos de español y uno de sus cursos de inglés. De este modo los alumnos y las alumnas tienen la oportunidad de estar en contacto con la otra cultura y de usar el español y el inglés para comunicarse. Esperamos que este proyecto piloto pueda ser efectuado también en el futuro.

Le agradezco al señor Alcalde su cooperación constructiva y al claustro español su disposición a colaborar en este intercambio, especialmente durante un tiempo cargado de trabajo al comienzo del curso escolar.

Every 25th November we held a special day to remember how women suffer from violence in different aspects around the world.

These days our Bachillerato Year 2 students are debating about the rights and wrongs of animal testing.
 For decades mice, primates, cats, dogs, rabbits... have been used to test medicines, cosmetics or cleaning products.
It is high time we stop those experiments because there are other alternatives that prevent cruelty, money, time, etc.

2016 SCHOOL EXCHANGE

These days we are starting the arrangements for our 2016 School Exchange with Gerabronn in Germany. 

Those who follow this blog will remember that we visited Germany last school year so this will be the Second Edition. We all (teachers, students and families) keep very good memories of the first edition and we hope this will be also a success.

 Between 15 and 20 Bachillerato Year 1 students will take part in this amazing experience and two teachers will go with the group. This year the German group will come here to Huelva first at the beginning of May and we will visit them later at the end of June. 

When we have the definite planning of activities to do there we will post them here.

In the meantime here are a couple of videos with some information.

LITERATURE & CINEMA

These days we are hosting an interesting activity at the school library. It is an interdepartmental project mixing cinema and literature.
All our groups are visiting the library and participating in quizzes, talks, etc. Even popcorn is offered!! Furthermore, there are movie posters, books, magazines, an amazing photocell and other stuff related to films and the cinema.

HIKING WITH ESO YEAR 2

Today has been a great hiking day for our ESO Year 2 students.
Nearly 10 kilometers along the Odiel river and visiting mining areas dating to Roman times!!
It is always good to spend some time with our students outside the classroom as we can see many different things in them that are hiding everyday.
Here are some pictures of the trip.

DNA MAKING

The first activity which I have done as part of my role as language assistant was with the students of the 1 ESO in their Biology classes, helping them to create strands of DNA.
This involved making a copy of a strand of DNA using sweets, whilst discovering what DNA is and what its functions are.
We made the strands using 2 "regalices" (in English these are known as strawberry shoelaces), a number of wooden sticks as well as using 4 different coloured sweets in the middle, in order to recreate the two base pairs (AD and GC) within the double helix of the DNA.
We did this activity with the students in the 1ESO biology class in order to help them in their studies of Biology and learn about DNA whilst having a bit of fun at the same time.

RECONOCIMIENTO MINISTERIAL

Hace unos días enviamos al Ministerio de Educación español un breve escrito con la conclusión de la visita de nuestro primer visitante europeo. Junto al texto enviamos dos documentos que nos parecen muy interesantes para este tipo de visitas.

• El primero era un cuestionario informativo sobre el profesor en cuestión para que sepamos quién es antes de que venga a nuestro IES. 
• El segundo era otro cuestionario evaluativo valorando la experiencia con lo más destacado, aspectos a mejorar, etc.

Los responsables de este programa de Estancias Profesionales del INTEF me dijeron que el primer documento les parecía interesante y lo iban a tomar de modelo para crear uno a nivel nacional y así pudiera ser usado por todos los centros de acogida interesados que participan en este programa. Pues bien, ya está publicado y difundido. Abajo podéis ver cómo ha quedado:

AUF WIEDERHESEN THOMAS!

Hoy hemos despedido al Dr Thomas Lindecke del Gymnasium an der Wolfskuhle en Essen (Alemania). El se ha convertido en nuestro primer profesor visitante europeo.
 Han sido dos semanas intensas de reuniones y entrevistas con el equipo directivo, profesorado, Asociación de Padres y Madres, asistencia a algunas clases, comparación de materiales e instalaciones, charlas informales, etc. El objetivo de la visita es conocer el día a día de un centro educativo español.
Para nosotros, como centro receptor, también ha sido una experiencia enriquecedora pues este tipo de visitas nos hace reflexionar sobre nuestra práctica educativa, nuestras costumbres y hábitos, nos obliga a ver las cosas de otra manera, preguntar e interesarnos por cómo lo hacen en otros centros extranjeras, etc. Uno de los primeros frutos del contacto va a ser un proyecto de intercambio de amistad por Internet entre el alumnado de nuestro centro y el centro alemán.

Por tanto, quedamos muy satisfechos con la visita y seguimos en el listado de centros de acogida para visitas de futuro profesorado europeo.

Esta experiencia ha quedado también reflejada en el BLOG de Estancias Profesionales del Ministerio de Educación español.

DIA EUROPEO DE LAS LENGUAS

Como cada 26 de septiembre celebramos el Día Europeo de las Lenguas. Al caer este año en sábado, las actividades conmemorativas las celebramos ayer viernes. Este año hemos repartido varias lenguas europeas entre los distintos grupos de ESO del IES para hacer un mural individual sobre las mismas incluyendo:

• Número de hablantes
• Extensión
• Familia a las que pertenecen
• Lenguas emparentadas
• Breve reseña histórica
• Personajes influyentes de esa lengua
• Aportaciones al español
• Traducción de palabras como "amigo, hola, adiós, gracias..."

Profesor visitante europeo

Hola, soy el Dr. Thomas Lindecke, profesor visitante de Essen, Alemania. Normalmente enseño Español e Inglés en el instituto de educación secundaria “Gymnasium an der Wolfskuhle“ en Essen. En mi instituto organizo el programa de profesores auxiliares extranjeros, el programa de seguridad de tráfico y también acompaño a nuestros profesores en prácticas durante su formación profesional. En las próximas dos semanas voy a asistir a clases en vuestro I.E.S. y tener reuniones con coordinadores de varios programas educativos, pedagógicos y didácticos. Me alegro de tener la opción de una impresión personal de otro sistema educativo europeo. Me gustaría dar las gracias al profesorado del I.E.S. J.A. BECAS FUNDACION AMANCIO ORTEGA

Desde hace unos cursos, la fundación que dirige el empresario gallego ofrece 200 becas para alumnado de 4º ESO a nivel nacional que quiera cursar un año académico en Canadá o Estados Unidos.
Los requisitos mínimos son:

- Estar cursando actualmente 4º ESO
- Nota media de 3º ESO igual o superior a 7,5
- Nota final de inglés en 3º ESO igual o superior a 8
- No haber disfrutado de una beca similar para estancias de un año en el extranjero
- Tener nacionalidad española

Ya tenemos organizadas las asignaturas que serán bilingües en este nuevo curso escolar 2015-16. Aquí dejamos el cuadro resumen:

Se puede observar que según avanzan los cursos disminuyen las asignaturas bilingües, la explicación es que en los cursos superiores hay más asignaturas optativas y menos comunes (las únicas que pueden ser bilingües).

10 Años de Plurilingüismo en Andalucía

Parece que fue ayer pero ya han pasado 10 años desde que comenzaron los primeros Centros Bilingües en Andalucía. Nuestro IES se unió a este interesante proyecto hace 7 años.
Los primeros años fueron muy intensos e llenos de ilusión, había tanto que hacer. Luego llegó la famosa crisis y las reducciones de horas de auxiliares, recursos, etc. Pero aquí seguimos.

La revista digital Andalucía Educativa dedica su número 85 a estos diez años de Plurilingüismo.

INTRODUCING ALEX, our new Language Assistant

Hola!

Me llamo Alex, y estaré en Huelva entre octubre de 2015 y junio de 2016 como auxiliar de conversación. Nunca he visitado a Huelva, entonces tengo muchas ganas de descubrir la ciudad y su cultura!

Yo soy de Manchester, una ciudad muy grande en el noroeste de Inglaterra. Es una ciudad conocida gracias a su música, con grupos como Oasis y los Stone Roses, su fútbol, con dos equipos enormes, Manchester United y Manchester City, y además, Manchester es conocido por su lluvia! Entonces no puedo esperar para tener un clima lleno de sol!

Como la mayoría de los Mancunians (la gente de Manchester) tengo una pasión por el fútbol, y conozco que hay un equipo de fútbol, el Recreativo, en Huelva y espero que pueda ver tantas partidos como posible.

Llegaré en Huelva alrededor del 20 de septiembre, y tengo planeas de viajar mucho para que pueda descubrir España!

3 LINEAS BILINGUES 1º ESO

Se confirma oficialmente: tendremos 3 líneas bilingües en 1º ESO desde el curso próximo 2015-16. A la espera de cerrar el proceso de matriculación parece que el número de solicitudes para cursar bilingüismo va en consonancia con esas tres líneas por lo que no habrá sorteo y nadie se verá obligado si no quiere estar en un grupo bilingüe.

PERIODO INFORMATIVO A LAS FAMILIAS

Nos encontramos en plena fase informativa con vista al curso 2015-16. Ya se hicieron las reuniones con los tutores de 6º de nuestros CEIPs adscritos. También vinieron los padres del nuevo alumnado a conocer el centro el pasado día 3 de junio. Quedan las visitas al IES del alumnado de 6º de Educación Primaria.
Para el curso que viene tenemos una gran novedad. La Consejería de Educación nos ha comunicado que tendremos 3 líneas bilingües pero hemos pensado que sería mejor tener directamente las 4 líneas bilingües desde el curso que viene en vez de dentro de uno o dos cursos.
En cuanto nuestra petición sea aceptada oficialmente, lo comunicaremos a la comunidad educativa.

LLEGARON NUESTROS COLEGAS ALEMANES

Por fin, desde el 14 al 23 de mayo recibimos la visita de nuestros amigos del Gymnasium Gerabronn de Alemania. Nos devolvieron la visita que les hicimos en abril de este año. Han sido 10 días muy intensos con visitas culturales, deportivas e históricas a Sevilla, Doñana, El Rocío, Niebla, Lugares Colombinos, etc. Y por supuesto, mucha playa!!!
Ha sido una experiencia maravillosa para todos los que hemos estado implicados: alumnado, familias y profesorado. Se trataba de la Primera Edición y podemos afirmar que ha sido todo un éxito. Por tanto, ya estamos pensando en la segunda edición para el curso que viene...

SUMMER IS COMING

Summer is round the corner!! Some people will visit family or friends, others lucky will travel abroad, etc. For those who can't afford to go out but want to study English, there is a interesting option in Andalucía.
Interjoven offers language summer camps in Constantina (Sevilla) and Cazorla (Jaén) for students between 12 and 17 years.

SPECIAL VISIT FROM GERMANY

Today we had a special visit from Germany. Six girl students are spending a few days with their Spanish partners and today they came to school. It was a real revolution having these special guests.

Como cada año ha sido abierta la convocatoria para solicitar ayudas para participar en el Programa de Inmersión Lingüística  para el verano de 2015. Este programa  del Ministerio de Educación está destinado al alumnado de 1º y 2º de ESO y se desarrollará en dos turnos:

• Del 28 de junio al 12 de julio para 1º ESO
• Del 12 al 26 de julio para 2º ESO

Los aspirantes deben haber obtenido como mínimo 7 de nota media final en el curso 2013-14 y un mínimo de 7 en la asignatura de inglés en el curso 2013-14.

NUESTRO IES SE QUEDA PEQUEŇO

Pues sí, pocos años después de su inauguración nuestro centro educativo se ha quedado pequeño y corre un serio riesgo de masificación. Las previsiones son de un aumento de alumnado en los próximos cursos que sobrepasarán las 16 unidades iniciales para las que el centro estaba preparado.

GETTING TO KNOW GERMANY

In the Bilingual Optional Subject for Bachillerato Year 1 known as Proyecto Integrado, this year students are working hard to prepare the School Exchange with Gerabronn in Germany. Along the year they have done some different projects like:

- A budget for a week for two people in Germany
- A brochure with bilingual information on different aspects on Huelva
- A logo for the school exchange
- Creating accounts in social networkds like Instagram, Blogger, Facebook, Twitter...


Now, we present another one. This time, students in groups have created a poster on different topics about Germany (politics, economy, art, history, religion, science and technology, symbols and facts, etc.) They were presented in class and now they have been displayed for the rest of the school community.

BACK TO DUBLIN

One more year a group of our ESO Year 3 students  are visiting Dublin (Ireland) with their teachers. They will stay there for a week and will visit the most famous landmarks of the Irish capital city. We hope they have a great time there and come back happy and satisfied!!

POETRY INTERNATIONAL DAY

Like every March 21st we celebrate Poetry International Day. Certainly, poetry is not as well appreciated today as in the past. Novels have overgrown it and have become much more popular and accepted. However, some poetry is really a masterpiece with a great choice of words, ideas, feelings... in a short text.
