INTERACTIVE READERS

Reading is an essential skill when learning a new language. This year our Bachillerato Year 1 students are reading two level B1 interactive readers  ("The Placebo Effect" and "Get Smart" from the series Cambridge Discovery Education.
The publisher also offers an app with information on the titles and levels available and a little gift. One title from B2+ level is offered for free: "Avalance". If you want to take a look, search for their app to download it.

WHAT LEVEL IS MY ENGLISH?

It is a fact: we love numbers, statistics, percentages... And our English level is no exception.

Since the European Union decided on the new terminology to grade level of competence in a language (from every basic to very advanced: A1-A2-B1-B2-C1-C2 ), European tests have adapted to this terminology.
Obviously this is business and money for academies, publishers, course writers, etc.
Here is a free website by Cambridge to have a quick (only 25 questions) international on-line test placement. Apart from that, here is another more accurate and comprehensive test. The second test will take you 30 minutes and the results are instant. Wanna try it??

HOW IN-COMMUNICATION IS CHANGING OUR LIVES

This video is quite thought-provoking because we can see many things that are going wrong because of our technology dependency. It is in English and we present it with Spanish subtitles for those who can't follow the fast pace. Not to be missed!

WHAT ENGLISH DO WE STUDY?

Many times teachers and students of foreign languages ask themselves questions like: What variety of language to use? How informal is that expression?, How are texts chosen for students books?, Is this expression outdated?, Who decides what is correct or incorrect in English?, etc.

Here is a website by Cambridge giving a lot of information about it and they also offer a free app called "English Monstruo" (it runs on IOS and Android) with fun activities, games, etc.

Here is a video explaining how the app was designed and the main features.

This year we are planning with Bachillerato our first School Exchange with Germany in April. Right now we are preparing everything for 10 fantastic days there.

Our German exchange friends have recorded an awesome video presentation so we know more about them and where they live and study.
