GOOGLE CLASSROOM

This year many teachers at our school are making use of a very useful tool provided by Google. It is Goggle Classroom and teachers and students can be in touch to make learning possible even outside the classroom.
Thanks to this education platform we teachers can send our students documents, videos, links, activities, tasks, etc. At the same time, students can answer questions, submit projects or task, ask doubts, etc.
Here is a short video explaining how it works (in Spanish) from the student's point of view.

Every September 26th we celebrate the European Day of Languages with different activities in many school groups. For example, this year:

  • ESO Year 1 students will get a photocopy with some common expressions in 4 languages (Spanish, English, French and Portuguese)
  •  ESO Year 2 students will make a poster in every classroom with messages in different languages
  • ESO Year 3 and 4 will make signs in French for different spaces at the school (library, toilets, teachers' room, computer room, gym etc.),
  • Bachillerato students will debate on the importance of learning languages for their personal, academic and professional lives.
  • Photocall at breaktime at the school library

MEET LEAH

Hi there! My name is Leah Shedrow and I am so excited to be a new language assistant in Corrales! I am from Atlanta, Georgia in the U.S. and just graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Journalism, focusing on film and media studies! I love film and creating stories and different worlds. I also minored in Spanish and studied abroad in Valencia two years ago, which made me realize my passion for the Spanish language and my infinite love for Spain! The experience in Valencia inspired me to return to Spain to explore my love of teaching and fulfill my dream of being immersed in Spanish life once again! I also developed a desire to travel and learn as many languages as possible, and have taught myself Italian and some Hebrew since that experience.

Apart from traveling, languages, and education, I absolutely love music! I took piano lessons for 10 years, participated in orchestra for 8 years, performed in many plays throughout middle school and high school, and sang in a girls group and choir in high school! I continued with choir for a year in college and also sang in an a cappella jazzs group. Overall I love the arts and am always happy writing songs or other stories!

I’m very happy to be placed in Huelva and at Juan Antonio Pérez Mercader and can’t wait to get started!

MEET KALISTA

Hello! My name is Kalista and I am from the United States. I grew up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Both sides of my family are from the U.S. and many of them also live in Arkansas. I have an older sister, a younger brother, and a dog (boxer-mix) named Emma. Jonesboro is a fairly small town and is home to Arkansas State University. I graduated from Arkansas State University in May of 2018 with degrees in Communication Studies and World Languages and Cultures for Spanish. I fell in love with Spanish and learning about different cultures. My university had students from all over the world, so I was able to learn a little bit about their cultures while still in the U.S.

I enjoy meeting people from around the world and learning about their lifestyles, cultures, and perspectives. I also love to travel, and it is what I would like to do for the next few years. Three years ago, I spent a month studying abroad in Costa Rica and my love of cultures and traveling is one of the reasons that I am pursuing the opportunity to become a Culture and Language Assistant in Spain. I also love teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. I would like to pursue teaching as a career.

Some of my hobbies include spending time outdoors, camping, hiking, and kayaking. This was a large part of my life since I grew up in Arkansas. We have beautiful outdoor scenery and many gorgeous lakes and rivers. Some of my other hobbies are yoga and kickboxing. I enjoy going to the gym and staying active.
