WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON / IMPORTANT WORDS IN ENGLISH?

Today it is very easy to find the most commonly used words in any language by using modern technology. They analyze any corpus of written (newspapers, blogs, magazines,...) or spoken language (interviews, podcasts...) to find what is most repeated.

Here are the 3,000 most common words in the English language. This study has been carried out by Oxford and the results can be checked HERE.

Alternatively Youtube is full of videos claiming to offer again the most common English words, verbs, phrases, etc.
As an example, check out this video:

INTRODUCING EMMA, OUR NEW LANGUAGE ASSISTANT

Hi!

I’m Emma and I’m your language assistant this year. When I found out that I would be in Huelva this year I didn’t know much about the city but now I can’t wait to explore it!

I’m from Southampton, a small city on the south coast. Although it is one of the sunniest parts of England the weather is still not as good as Huelva’s. Southampton is best known for its football team (who are in the Europa League this year) and also for its port which is famous because its the port that the ship Titanic set sail from. I live with my Mum, Dad, Sister, three cats and dog.

Although I am from Southampton, I study in the city of Sheffield which is a more famous city, especially due to its music scene which has produced bands such as Arctic Monkeys and Pulp. I study Spanish and Portuguese there and I aim to practice both languages as much as possible this year.

In my spare time I like to watch as much football as possible. I am a big Southampton fan, but in Spain my team is Barcelona. I also enjoy going to the gym, cooking and also shopping!

I look forward to meeting you all in a few weeks,

Emma

WELCOME TO 2016-17 SCHOOL YEAR

September is here and that means we are about to start a new school year. This is an important year for our school because we keep up growing and we have a lot of interesting activities coming up.

This year we will have 12 bilingual teachers and 13 bilingual groups. For the first time ALL the ESO Year 1 groups will be bilingual. Here is the distribution of bilingual subjects for each level:

  • ESO Year 1: Mathematics, Biology & Geology, Music
  • ESO Year 2: Music, Geography and History, Arts, Physics and Chemistry
  • ESO Year 3: Biology & Geology, Physics and Chemistry, Citizenship, Technology
  • ESO Year 4: Physical Education, Geography & History
  • Bachillerato Year 1: Philosophy, Physical Education
With the new Education Law we do not need bilingual subjects in Bachillerato Year 2 (if the students already took two bilingual subjects the previous year). This way the students can devote more time to prepare the final exam for the Diploma (whatever it is...).

As for Language Assistants, this year we share AGAIN our language assistant with the Elementary School in Corrales. It is a shame that the Administration keeps cutting fundings for the bilingual programme. This year our language assistant is Emma Light. Very soon we will post some information about her. A bit of patience, please...

We will have the 3rd edition of our School Exchange with Germany for the Bachillerato Year 1 students. This year we will visit Germany in November and they will come to visit us in May.
