MARCIE IS HERE

¡Hola!
My name is Marcie and as you may know I’m going to be joining the school as a language assistant this week. I arrived in Huelva on Saturday and after only a couple of days here I already love it.

I was born in Scotland and have lived there all my life so I am very used to cold, grey, windy days with lots of rain. The last few days of blue, sunny sky have been very welcoming and it is already a lot warmer than most of our days in summer! I have spent the last 3 months in Italy studying Italian in a small language school in Verona and I have already embarrassed myself many times since getting here as I keep speaking Italian instead of Spanish… hopefully I will get into Spanish mode soon!

I study Italian and Spanish at the University of Edinburgh and the question I get asked constantly is “Do you get the 2 languages confused sometimes?” The answer is yes, yes I get confused all the time, especially now after speaking only in Italian the last few months… please be kind to me! In my spare time when I’m not studying or working (I work in a supermarket to pay the bills) my main hobbies are acting, singing and dancing, basically anything to do with the theatre. I love being in shows or going to see them and dancing has always played a big part in my life. At one point I considered doing this as a profession but decided to follow the path of languages instead and I’m very pleased with my decision as I get to travel to lots of new and exciting places!

I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and taking on the role of a language assistant in your school. It will be a learning experience for me as well and I hope to acquire new teaching methods and skills while I am here. When I return to Scotland in the summer I hope I will leave knowing that I have contributed something new to the school and that I will have helped as many students as possible with their English. I am convinced that I will love every moment of my stay here and I can’t wait to spend the next few months with you all.

¡Hasta luego!
Marcie J
